Gateway to Discovery Board of Directors

Introduction of Members of the Board of Directors

Joyce Garton-Natte:

Joyce was a dentist for 34 years, a Lay Pastor of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for 6 years and is now retired. She has lived in Fort Dodge since 1970, is married to Roger Natte. They each have 2 daughters, Mindy, Tresia, Jill and Laura, and 7 grandchildren. Together they have enjoyed over 25 mission trips largely to Latin American countries. Joyce has been serving on the Gateway to Discovery Board since the beginning. It has been exciting because the unfolding of this dream has occurred so rapidly that there can be no other explanation than that God has been in it—AND that the board members have prayed as if it all depended upon God and worked as if it all depended on them.

Monica Shelly:

A native Iowan, Monica became extremely passionate about the mission and work of Gateway to Discovery after her sister gifted her the book, “Half the Sky".  Monica began watching the PBS special, “A Path Appears" written by the same author of “Half the Sky" and the special featured Magdalene House and Thistle Farms in Nashville, Tennessee.  Magdalene House and Thistle Farms were the inspiration for Gateway to Discovery and Hope Sweet Hope Studio.  She learned that human trafficking is more pervasive than previously thought and happens in everyone’s community.  Monica is committed to empowering women and looks forward to working with Gateway to Discovery and Hope Sweet Hope.

Monica attended University of Iowa and received a B.B.A. in Finance, B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Human Relations. She is the Finance & Business Manager at Drs. Shelly & Shelly, PC, a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer and the Endurance Programmer at CrossFit Fort Dodge.  She also earned a certification as a USA Level 1 Triathlon Coach and is a certified Group Fitness Instructor with the American Council on Exercise. Monica enjoys working with middle school kids as the Track Coach at St. Edmonds. In her free time, she enjoys competing in triathlons, running half marathons, reading and consuming large amounts of information from podcasts. Monica loves traveling with her husband of 20 years, Andy, and her two children, Charlie and Caroline.
