Gateway to Discovery is a two-year, faith based, 501c(3) non-profit residential support program located in Fort Dodge, Iowa, designed to help heal women who are struggling with addiction and trauma related to human trafficking, homelessness, and more. The Mission Statement is “Offering Women a Sanctuary for Recovering in Community.”
Gateway to Discovery is modeled after Magdalene House and Thistle Farms in Nashville, Tennessee, founded by Rev. Becca Stevens and based on the simple premise, “Love changes lives.”
Residents commit to two years in the community of recovery receiving housing, food, therapy, access to heath care, and opportunities for education and job training at no cost to them. They learn social and other life skills crucial to maintaining sobriety and becoming independent contributing members of society.
After an initial phase of healing, the residents can be involved at Hope Sweet Hope Studios, Gateway’s social enterprise. At the Studio, they create one-of-a-kind floral paper art items, greeting cards, gift tags, journals, bookmarks, jewelry, magnets, ornaments and more, which are distributed locally and nationally with proceeds assisting the financial operations of the program. As they gain job skills, they heal physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, creating peace, one piece at a time.
Gateway to Discovery is privately supported by donations from churches, individuals, foundations and service organizations- without government funding- to ensure an emphasis on God’s central importance to recovery success.
